I abhor particularly the cultural hegemony, the Americanisms continually spilling out of the internet and media 24/7, the way everyone's now got a brash, dumb American like opinion, the pervasive health & safety, clean-cut clean-living, throw away consumer culture, the materialistic naming and describing at length everything that exists to own it, the horrible commercialism wormed its way into every corner of human existence, you get my drift.
But I liked and like a lot of the culture that came out of America that was not tainted abominably by the commercialism that inevitably destroys culture, makes it something else entirely. Especially music. But it was black people behind that, what I am referring to.
And what I suppose I am really afraid of is a shift in the balance of power - as however desirable it may be to have a new balance, the process of moving to a new one would be calamitous.

The fact is that Obama for all his faults was and is a man of good intent, of high intelligence, and of noble conviction.
However he was a poor commander in chief. He lacked resolve. He tended to appeasement. He conceded to the "anti-war" protesters who were following a script given them by the enemies of the West and our values.
The reason for all the conflagration under Obama was non-confrontation and minimum intervention thus emboldening despots. In this way he upset the equilibrium of power relations, checks, deterrents, and global acceptance of common values.
He was faced with many difficult decisions that he too often got very, very wrong, for all his good intent and intelligence.
The reality is the US is the foremost world power and thus it has a responsibility as this power to deal with threats that arise in a world that is increasingly interconnected and interdependent.
The reality is that the US is in possession of an unrivaled military force, and when there is a last resort need to use it, it should always be wielded in a manner that is decisive, effective, overwhelming and successful. That way you only have to use it once, and despots will not try to play games.
That is how you keep the peace and avoid war. That is the real politik of the thing.

I have on several occasions challenged posters to show a recorded example of Obama uttering a coherent sentence.
I will try again here is an example of a purely made up sentence which could be spoken by a US president:
"It is the policy of this administration to restrict exports of grain crops to a level which will avoid shortages at home".
Another example might be:
"It is my administration's policy to cut military spending while maintaining our capability to defend the country",
I never heard Obama say anything like this. I conclude that he is a dunce whose brain has been destroyed by illegal drug use.

Obama was not a war-monger. He was careful thinking and well meaning. He was highly informed and very aware of such history say as what happened in Bosnia, Rwanda, Kosovo.
He no doubt believed it was right to come to the rescue of people subjected to brutality, and crimes against humanity, of thousands disappeared in the prisons of despots, and being hideously tortured etc.
He no doubt saw it as his duty as the preeminent military power in the world to act against tyrants, dictators, gross violations of human rights, torture, mass murder, global instability and terror, world peace, crimes against humanity, wars of aggression, support of international terrorism, volatility etc.
Of course he was also aware of the incompetent, inconsistent justifications made by Bush and Blair for entering Iraq. But he was also aware Saddam was a dangerous despot who left one million dead in the war with Iran, 100,000 Kurds brutally murdered in northern Iraq, 200,000 Shia Muslims driven from the marshlands in southern Iraq, that he attempted to subjugate and brutalise the Kuwaitis in 1990 which led to the Gulf War, that he routinely butchered political opponents, and ran torture chambers and hideous penalties personally supervised by him and his family (all documented and beyond doubt).
And he was well aware of such as how Iraq repeatedly obstructed UN weapons inspectors between 1992 and 2003, their many false declarations, the biological weapons programme and nuclear development programme disclosed by Saddam's son-in-law, Hussein Kamal in 1995, the missiles designed for use in WMD wintercepted on their way to Iraq in 1995, and more.
It's always easy for uninformed cretins to rant full of self-righteous condemnation on the internet on the basis of the slogans and misinformation that they have been fed. And condemn those with actual massive responsibilities for their decisions. Done always with the benefit of hindsight, and always looking for the opportunity to make political capital, and always rushing in to fulfill their destiny as a useful fool.

Thanks Mowl. Sorry to inform you that Maureen passed away more than five years ago. I still mention her as if she is alive, because I still talk to her everyday. We were very very close.
We did fly over Nova Scotia.
My last trip was last February to Thailand. Alone.
Maureen would have loved the place.
